This Kitchen Remodel Improves the View

Widening one doorway had an expansive effect on an entire home remodeling project.

Enlarging the entryway between the kitchen and dining room dramatically improved the visual impact and sense of spaciousness in this remodeling project. Now, from the living room, your eye travels through the rejuvenated dining room to see the homeowner’s new kitchen. Three formerly defined rooms flow as one expansive space. The living space feels bigger without moving any walls.

We preserved the original picture frame molding on the walls and painted it white, along with the baseboards and crown molding, to make the most of these vintage details. Even the radiator cover brings an element of interest to the room when repainted in white. Finally, the homeowner’s five-tier drop crystal chandelier adds a particular grandeur to the room.

A long, dark hallway became a pleasant area to pass through. Chandelier fixtures and dimmable recessed lights replaced the track lighting. The white wainscotting with a contrasting paint color above draws the eye down the hall, breaking up the wall space. These elements create visual interest and anchor framed artwork. Freshly refinished floors bring out the warm tones of the original wood.
