Sunroom Addition and Garden · Design · Build
Project Background
After years of traveling the world, our clients were ready to bring that sense of discovery home. Their vision centered on an expansive backyard garden—one that would display their collected art among Midwestern perennials, new to them after a move from the East Coast.
They partnered with us to design and build a sunroom addition just off the kitchen. The goal was to create an inviting, light-filled retreat for morning coffee, thriving houseplants, and year-round enjoyment of their garden views.
The design features three walls of south-facing windows to maximize natural light, with a comfortable seating area to enjoy the surrounding landscape and seasonal wildlife.
A Tight Winter Timeline
With a late-fall start and Chicago winter approaching, the project required careful coordination to meet the springtime goal. Construction progressed efficiently despite winter conditions, with the foundation poured and framing completed early, allowing interior work to continue uninterrupted through fluctuating early-spring conditions.
Exterior finishes, including stucco and roofing, were carefully matched to the existing home for a seamless look. While the adjacent kitchen remained unchanged, the placement of the addition enhances both the perceived size and functionality of the space.
The project concluded with new brickwork and expanded planting beds, perfectly timed to welcome the season’s first blooms—and the return of migrating birds.
